Extreme Weather

From this extreme weather page you can access information on a range of recent events occurring around the Earth. Unless we act now to curb greenhouse gas emissions, the frequency and ferocity of these events will increase.

Included here are phenomena that are on the outer edge of historical patterns, especially severe or unseasonal events.

The United Nations Environment Program and private finance institutions (UNEP FI) warns that the estimated cost of droughts, storm surges, hurricanes and floods reached a record $US210 billion ($A276 billion) in 2005. Undoubtedly insurance losses and costs will escalate in the coming years.

Each of the headings below are regularly updated from the NOAA site to provide information on severe global events from the current or previous month. Click on the headings to see the information and status of current severe events.
