Tornado during a party.

by Selena

This happened last year. There had been watches for tornadoes and thunderstorm warnings and my sister was having her birthday party ( a sleepover) and no one was worried except for me and one of her friends. It was about 4:00 p.m. and we were playing pin-the-tail-on the donkey. Then my dad came running into the kitchen ( where we were playing) and said that the watch may turn into a warning. We didn’t really care but when he said that, the two of us who were scared just looked at each other. Then about 5 minutes later he came in again and said it was a warning and the tornado was only about 15 minutes away from where we live. You should have seen those little kids panic ( only 2 years younger than me.) But it was me and my mom mostly worried because, we don’t have a basement…we always use my dad’s closet and that closet is really small. We can barely fit 3 people in it. My mom told all the kids to go sit on the floor in my parents room. Then me,my mom,and dad gathered, hats for everyone, jackets, blankets, and pillows. ( We needed jackets because they needed no skin to show on there bodies besides there head so they don’t get hurt to bad.) Then we pulled everything out of my dad’s closet and crammed pillows, blankets, and us inside of it. Then before the power went out my mom was calling all the parents to say that there child was fine. Then right after she was done calling the parents the power went out. My parents took my animals and put my cats in cages and put small pillows in the cages and put the cages under there bed and put the dogs under the bed to and put pillows underneath the bed, and shut there bedroom door. Then they shut the closet door and they got a mattress and hid under it next to to the closet.

It only lasted about 20 minutes but it seemed like hours. I could hear my dogs barking and the kids screaming and glass breaking and the roof shingles popping off one by one. Finally we could get out. It was about 4:30. We had fun though for the rest of the night.

But little did we know there was another one coming. We were sleeping in our guestroom all in sleeping bags. Everyone was a sleep except for me and my sisters friends Kirsten. We were still paranoid from the storm. Then my mom came in and was all panicy and said to wake up everyone because there was another tornado. She said it had touched down about 10 minutes away. We woke everyone up and went to the living room. My mom told us to grab anything we need. { Most of us grabbed, a blanket, pillow, and something to drink } It was 4 in the morning. She told us we were going next door to the neighbors house. We all thought she was crazy but she wasn’t. My aunt had came earlier to spend the night and help so she took us to the neighbors house. It was pitch black and really windy. When we got to the house the neighbors took us to the basement and put blankets around us. Then my aunt stayed next to us while the neighbors and my parents gathered the animals. Then when everyone was in the basement we heard popping and trees falling. Soon it was over, but the kids were stuck at our house for 2 days because the trees were on the road!
