Extreme Winds And A Tornado

by Anon

I live in southern Michigan. We do get tornadoes there, but rarely are they ever violent. This story happened during the early June 2010 tornado outbreak.

The day of the tornado, it had been raining nonstop since early in the morning. At around 8, the downpour stopped and it became very warm and moist outside. I thought that it was done raining for the night, went to bed at around 10:30. Little did I know that a monster storm was on its way.

At about 10:45, I was still laying in bed trying to go to sleep when suddenly the tornado siren wailed outside. I quickly got up and turned the TV onto the weather channel. A tornado warning had been issued for my county, and there was a funnel cloud spotted just 2 miles west of my town.

I grabbed my laptop, phone and a flashlight before sprinting down to the basement. A few minutes after sitting down there, my girlfriend called and told me that a tornado was on the ground not to far from me. I went into a small closet off of the main basement room and hunkered down. The wind was roaring upstairs now.

Soon, it seemed calmer and I ventured back upstairs and went to bed. I found out the next morning that three mpre tornado warnings had been issued for my county while I was sleeping. I hadnt been woken up by the siren because the power went out.

The next morning, I surveryed the damage around town. Trees and telephone poles had been blown down, and a flagpole had actually been bent at a right angle by the wind. The tornado passed not too far north of me, and tore the roof off of a church. It was later rated an f2.
