The Fear Factor question is a valid one. In a public policy debate, it is often very useful to ask who profits from both proposed changes AND from the status quo. That said, I'm amazed that people do not comment more on the fact that far more money is being made by those who have a vested interest in denying the human impact on climate than by anyone who is raising the alarm.
Exxon Oil, for example, is the most profitable company in the U.S., and has been for a decade. In 2008, the company set a record for the most profit ever earned by a U.S. firm: $45.2 billion. That is only one company in one year, and it was entirely due to producing products that increase greenhouse gases. With money like that to be made from ignoring or denying the facts of human-driven climate change, it seems naive at best to believe that the warnings of the scientific community are some form of scam or swindle.
It is far more likely that the scientific community is expressing genuine concern for the our civilization as whole, and that a substantial amount of the opposition to their ideas comes from leaders of industry trying to protect their short-term bottom line.

NOT a scare tactic by: Anonymous
You can be assured Global Warming is NOT a scare tactic. The evidence is there, its whether people are willing to accept it and do something about it to give next generations a chance of having a future or if people are going to sit in denial. It is easy to believe that Global Warming is used by scientists to recieve more money yet too many scientists/researcher have backed Global Warming for it to be a scare tactic. The facts and figures are all there. It is the money-makers "concerned" only with money and material things that want people to believe it is a lie. They don't care about the environment, the next generation or the wildlife... they care about money...the human race will ALL be effected by Global Warming... you can either choose to wait and see when everyone is attempting to survive or we can take action now.
