Nuclear power is viable although there are a lot factors to consider. Not only how long it takes to build safe plants, but humans always seem to abuse power and become greedy. Nuclear power is dangerous and if it fell into the wrong hands, it could be just another disaster. Spent fuel storage is also a massive problem which no country seems to have come up with a solution.
No matter if we change to nuclear power the fact remains everyone has to change the way they live. We have far too many people in the world now to be overusing the earth’s resources. Solar power, reusable energy and not taking more than we need are important if we want to live on earth. It’s not just the power; it’s so many things that we take for granted, overuse. We have new technologies now, why keep old habits?
Everyone can help change the bleak future we are heading towards, it isn’t just for the rich and powerful to do. Every little bit counts. We all have to pull together and change the way we live for the better.

I think that Kevin's comments are strong and compelling however there are a couple of additional dimensions on this topic as mentioned below.
I think the time has come to cease with the 'nice' talk-fests, the misguided political correctness and the taboo about avoiding discussion about overpopulation.
To save this planet that we all have to share, we need to focus on facts, substance and commonsense and not the rhetoric, emotional scare mongering, political game playing. There are three compelling issues - try and slow down population growth!, stop wars on this planet that waste the environment and energy and adopt nuclear energy as soon as possible.
